A Guide to Selecting Stainless Steel Door Handles

There are essentially two reasons why stainless steel door handle replacement is cheaper to purchase than other types of door handles. First, in most instances they will generally be made out of the standard grade of stainless steel (201) and so are best suited for use mainly inside. Second, in comparison with some of the other materials used in door handles, such as plastic and wood composite, stainless steel is one of the easiest to manufacture and thus you can expect it to last longer, which will save you money in the long run on maintenance costs.

So what is it about stainless steel door handles that make them cheaper to purchase? The first reason, as mentioned above, is because they're much cheaper to manufacture and thus are less likely to break or chip. This is in contrast with plastic and other composite door handle materials which tend to be less durable. Plastic can easily be broken when placed against an aggressive object such as a sharp edge or sharp corner and in the same vein wood composite can warp if subjected to sharp pressure when placed against an uneven surface. The end result is that they're not only less expensive to purchase but also require less maintenance in order to keep in good condition.

However, how do you know which type of material to purchase? You need to first consider the location where you intend to install your new entry door lever door handles. For exterior doors, such as doorknobs, you'll obviously need to go for the ones made of the appropriate grade of stainless steel. For interior doors, however, it's generally advisable to look at the available plastic and composite choices and then select from there. It's also important to factor in whether you want to replace the entire entry door lever with a new one or just replace the part you need to, which will involve checking the lock slot to ensure it's secure.
