Door Hardware - An Overview

Door hardware or door furniture refers to any of those things which are installed on a door either to improve its look or functionality. Door hardware includes locks, hinges, doorframes, and doorknob sets as well as the hardware itself. They are widely used and are found in various types and styles ranging from antique, rustic to modern. As for the locks, they can be of different types, such as the interior and exterior door lock cylinder styles or some combination thereof.

Door hinges, as their name implies, are used to close and open doors. The most common types are the French door hinges, cylinder door hinges, recessed door hinges, the plain or flush door hinges, and the latching door hinges. Doorframes or door corners also play an important role in door hardware. They come in various types, such as sliding door corners, double-hung door corners, solid door corners, and the bifold door corners. Apart from these, drawer slides, recessed slides, and other hardware also contribute to the variety and number of door hardware.

Door knob or handle is another important piece of door hardware. Door knobs are used to serve different purposes and come in various forms and styles as well. The most common type is the metal one with a knob mounted on a metal shaft. In addition, there are also wooden, plastic, brass, ceramic, and glass knobs in the market today. Door handles are used for additional functionalities such as push buttons, card locks, telephone dials, locks for cabinets and more.
