Let's understand the working principle of the mortise lock from these two aspects:

1. The mortise lock parts

2. How do mortise locks work?

1. The mortise lock parts

The mortise door lock must be neatly inserted into the mortise cutout or pocket on the door. There are four basic parts to a  mortise lock:

Mortise lock

Trim: Door lever, door knob or door handle

Percussion Board: Metal lining located in the hole in the door frame

Cylinder: Where lock and unlock functions occur

2. How do mortise locks work?

When the mortise lock acts on the opening and closing of the door, the door handle drives the latch, and the latch drives the follower to rotate,so that the latch retracts and the door to open. When the handle is reset, the latch spring of the mortise lock body acts, and the latch also resets. When the door is closed, the door is buckled to keep the door in a closed state and the door is closed.

When the mortise lock not only acts on the opening and closing of the door, but also plays a safety role, the core safety of the mortise lock body lies in the lock cylinder. The lock cylinder is a device for twisting the dead bolt and driving the latch. After the key is inserted into the lock cylinder and turned, the cam drives the dead bolt of the lock cylinder to open or retract. When the door is closed, the latch fastens the door and turns the lock cylinder knob or key to lock the door to meet the safety requirements.

Each model and brand of mortise lock has slightly different components, the design of mortise can stand the use. It can make full use of mortise lock, and is very suitable for businesses and buildings with high traffic flow. The internal mechanism design is also convenient for replacement and maintenance, which is convenient for users.
