Door hinges are used on doors, drawers, closets, and many other furniture items. They are often made from several types of material including metals, wood, plastic, and other man made materials. The most commonly used materials in door hinges are: Steel, Wrought Iron, Plastic, and Aluminum. While they come in all different types of materials, the most common is steel because of the strength it provides. A steel door hinge will last for years if properly taken care of.

The general rules that you need to follow when using door hinges is to ensure that the hinge is located at a 45-degree angle to your door and is directly under your door. Also ensure that the hinge is directly over a window or other opening that can be easily opened. To determine the location of the hinge, begin by locating where the top of the door stops and then measure from that point to the bottom of the hinges. This measurement will give you the exact corner radius of the hinge.

The most commonly used door hinges in residential applications are the corner and ball-bearing hinges. These door hinges are not as common in industrial/commercial applications but are in high demand in residential homes. Corner hinges are found in both double hung and single-hung styles. Ball bearing door hinges are found in single-hung and double hung styles and come in a wide array of finishes including black oxide.
