The Hotel Guest Lock is designed with a strict access hierarchy that prioritizes guest privacy and security from the inside while reserving full control for hotel staff on the outside. The latch bolt, which serves as the primary door-closing mechanism, can only be retracted in two ways: by turning a key from the exterior or by operating the inside lever. The outside lever is permanently inoperative under all conditions — it cannot be used to open the door from the guest-room side at any time. This ensures that once a guest locks the door from inside, no one outside can simply press the lever handle to gain entry, even if the door is not dead-bolted. To further secure the room, a dead bolt is provided, which is projected (extended) solely by a thumbturn located on the interior side of the door. This means only the occupant inside the room can engage the dead bolt, giving them complete control over the door's security state without any external intervention.
When the guest wishes to exit, a single action on the inside lever retracts both the latch bolt and the dead bolt simultaneously, allowing the door to be opened freely and quickly from within. This streamlined egress path is essential for hotel environments where guests must be able to leave their rooms without fumbling with multiple locks, especially in emergency situations. The lock also incorporates an auxiliary dead latch, which functions as a secondary locking point independent of both the latch bolt and the dead bolt. This auxiliary latch typically engages automatically when the door closes and can only be withdrawn by the inside lever, adding an extra barrier against forced entry — for instance, preventing the door from being pushed open with a credit card or similar tool even if the main latch bolt is compromised. Together, the permanently disabled outside lever, the inside-only dead bolt, the dual-bolt retraction via a single lever action, and the auxiliary dead latch create a lock system that is simple for guests to use, quick to egress from, and highly resistant to unauthorized outside access.
