The latch bolt on an Intruder Latch Bolt Lock is normally operated by the lever handle from either side of the door, allowing convenient access for authorized users. However, this free lever operation can be disabled when the outside lever is locked using a key from either the inside or the outside. Once the outside lever is locked in this position, it becomes inoperative, preventing anyone from using the exterior handle to retract the latch bolt. This feature is specifically designed to resist forced entry through the outside lever, adding a critical layer of security against intrusion attempts.
When the outside lever is locked, the latch bolt can still be retracted by inserting a key and turning it from either the inside or the outside, or alternatively by operating the inside lever handle, which remains functional regardless of the outside lever's locked status. This ensures that authorized occupants can always exit the room quickly, even when the exterior handle has been disabled. In addition to the latch bolt, this lock is equipped with an auxiliary dead latch, providing a secondary locking point that further secures the door against unauthorized entry and enhances the overall security of the locking system.
