There are many different types of Door Hinges, but there is a simple method to choose the right one. These hinges can be self-closing, spring, or tape-spring rolling hinges. They can also be self-locking, which is a good choice if you need to lock and unlock the door frequently. If you need to replace your existing door hinges, there are several things to look for.

A door hinge's weight capacity is determined by its weight. The heavier the door, the heavier the hinge will need to be. Use heavy weight cabinet hinges on heavy doors used frequently. The size of your door determines which type of hinge you need. The top hinge is measured from the rabbet in the frame, and the bottom hinge is measured from the bottom fringe of the barrel to the finished floor. A properly installed Door Hinge will support the weight of the entire piece.

The placement of your Door Hinge is important for smooth operation. The spacing between the hinges should be five to ten inches. Make sure they are evenly spaced and have a gap of approximately five and a half to three eighths of an inch. If they are too far apart, the door will not close properly. If the door is not centered properly, you need to adjust the hinges. Once you've adjusted the width, measure the thickness and the weight of the doors.
