Steel door hinges are usually made of iron or steel, although there are also many that are made of other materials. Steel doors are by far the most popular, but due to the fire risks involved with having a steel door left open in a cold garage or workshop, most people prefer to have the doors that are used for residential use be constructed with safety features such as an anti-backflip feature or a locking device installed by a qualified electrician. The majority of commercial steel door hinges are also rated for being used in commercial applications, however if you are looking to buy the steel door hinge for use in residential property then the steel door hinges rating will vary. The higher the rating the safer the steel door will be for use in your home, but remember that it is still possible to have a faulty steel door that can result in serious injury or even death.

DDSS: FR Certified: This is the U.S.P. approval mark that indicates that the hinges meet all of the safety requirements necessary to be used to support heavy doors in commercial and residential property. The DDSS: FR certification is provided for both domestic and commercial grade steel doors. The DDSS: FR rating on stainless steel hinges means that there is a ball bearing between each side of the hinge which reduces the wear and tear on the hinges and ensures that the door will not rust when the door is used in a wet or damp area such as a garage or workshop.

UL Certification: The UL classification of the DDSS: FR rating provides a guarantee that the product meets all U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) safety standards. The UL certification does not signify that the hinges are necessarily fire resistant. The reason for this is that there is no way for a hinge to prevent heat flow through itself from penetrating the material. The UL certification is however, intended to provide consumers with the assurance that the product is free of any dangerous hazard and is designed to meet all federal and state safety standards. The full flame rated hinge furniture is the most important and necessary component of the heavy duty fire rated door hinges.
